Recreate wikis on db141 from scratch at users' request
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Users may post a comment to this task in order to request a wiki on db141 to be recreated from scratch. This means only images will remain in tact. Unofficial backups may potentially be found on archive.org if you wish, or we have year old backups at best, unfortunately.

At this time, we are only doing this if the requestor of this action was the initial requester of the wiki as well. Other wiki bureaucrats would be unable to, as we have no way to verify them. We are doing like this so that no other random user can claim a wiki.

If you wish to have an XML imported into your wiki, please use Special:RequestImportDump after the wiki is recreated.

Any self-generated DataDump backups we have on our servers may also be imported. This means backups you personally manually generated with Special:DataDump when that was still active, still exists on our servers, and may be imported.

A single Phabricator task is created for this so that we do not have a bunch of Phabricator tasks popping up for requesting this due to the scope and size of this issue.

Please use the below template to make this request:

**Wiki subdomain**: <subdomain.miraheze.org>
**Wiki username**: <username>
**Wiki name**: <Wiki name>
**Language**: <wiki language>
**Visibility**: <private/public>
**Categorisation**: <wiki category>

Incomplete Requests:
  • chakuwikiwiki (T10015#202001, T10015#203152) -- not initial requester (initial requester was Bakaba)
  • receptionwikiswiki (T10015#202299) - not original requester, only valid individual to make request is FatBurn0000
  • tearsofthemiswiki (T10015#202482) - not original requester, original requester has now filed a separate request for reopening.

NOTE: DO NOT request these using Special:RequestWiki; someone will create them for you, if these wikis requested via RequestWiki, they will be declined.

I doubt my wiki was backed up anywhere since it was created a little less than a week before the outage began, but I have my own backup that I should be able to use.

Where should I look for any backup of my wiki? I can't remember if I ever made one, I even don't know how to ... :(

@Md.Farhan_Mahmud, it looks like the supplied wiki username is incorrect for the original requester. Please update your above request to use the wiki username Md.Farhan Mahmud

@A_KLERK, please reference this guide for help in locating backups: https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/User:NotAracham/Wiki_Recovery_Guide_(db141_outage)#Resurrecting_Content

The wiki has been created but the articles don't appear. Is it possible to retrieve them? If not, I would like to ask you to please close the wiki. There is no point for me to keep it without the articles.

RE: T10015#204729, @Chabi:

For private wikis, unless the data recovery from the damaged drives is successful, there is no route to recovery of lost pages.

I was able to verify the original request for thestarsareright.miraheze.org and the inclusion of a custom domain (thestarsareright.org) but not a reassignment of the original miraheze subdomain from thestarsareright to thestarsarerightorg.

Unless you have strong confidence this update was filed (this would be different from the custom domain), please edit your comment above to remove the 'org' from the original miraheze address.

Updated per your request.

Because the disks containing db141 have had their data successfully recovered and because the new db141 is now down, I am boldly marking this task as resolved as we now await the next steps to begin restoring all wikis from the disks.
