Agent_Isai renamed this task from [ACCESS REQUEST] Remove access for OrangeStar to Remove access for OrangeStar.May 8 2023, 15:24
Agent_Isai updated the task description. (Show Details)

Rather rash, no?

In the past we have seen rash resignation prompted by heated arguments. Please do take time to consider this and whether it's worth resigning over one argument. I for one won't be actioning this request until 24 hours pass.

But isn't the point of this request supposed to be VCP enforcement? "resigning over one argument" seems rather undescriptive to me

No, the VCP enforcement will be when I request a self-lock, to skip the bureaucracy. This is just for your amusement.

VCP enforcement would come from a Steward. If we enforce the VCP with an auto-revoke if one argument occurs then neither you nor I would have any roles.

That depends on the bounds at which they were broken. I have not told someone that I don't give a single shit about any of their beliefs. I have not called someone's statement Gish Gallop. I have not told someone I am running out of patience at them when I was the one exhausting patience by starting an issue in the first place. I have not said someone has no credentials without asking for any. The closest to any of those things would be when I called someone who was repeatedly pestering me an asshole once off-wiki. I haven't even covered half of the entire list of VCP violations.

Since this task has been made, even more VCP violations have occured, making this an actively ongoing issue.

Since the VCP has been invoked, I'm going to step in here and state that while I don't think the comments on Talk:Two-factor authentication were appropriate, I also don't think the situation has escalated beyond the point of issuing a warning, but will if it continues. This is to very politely offer that OrangeStar retract their rude statements and to commit going forward to only discuss the factual basis for an argument without attacking the individual, or to simply step away from matters that have gotten too stressful to handle properly.

I'm not someone that changes opinions the moment it becomes personally advantageous for me to do so. Not enough of a coward for that. I'd hate others for doing this, I do not do so myself.

Heh.

I don't give a single shit about any of their beliefs

Good thing I didn't say that: https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Two-factor_authentication&diff=333327&oldid=333308&diffmode=source

Damn, which one do I believe? The NIST, or cheapsslsecurity.com, a medium blog and some VPN provider? Real hard fucking choice here. **I don't give a single shit about any of your sources.** TOTP as used by most users is 2FA. Deal with it. Like your Gish Gallop on that talk page, you relied here on overwhelming people so much they wouldn't bother to check anything. Unfortunately for you, Gish Gallops don't really work in writing, which is why people only use them on spoken debates.

I have not told someone I am running out of patience at them when I was the one exhausting patience by starting an issue in the first place.

Wow, what a VCP violation, the Stewards will be calling for my head any second now.

I have not called someone's statement Gish Gallop.

There's no polite way to call out Gish Gallops, no matter what I did you would call it a VCP violation.

Want to know why I knew it was a Gish Gallop? You didn't read your own links, and relied on overwhelming people so much they wouldn't bother to read all those links.

In fact, I proved just that by reading those very links! https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Two-factor_authentication&type=revision&diff=333333&oldid=333327&diffmode=source

The very first link(!) goes directly against the argument you were trying to make:

::::::::cheapsslsecurity:
::::::::Some examples of possession factors include:
::::::::OTPs generated by authenticator apps on your mobile device, [[User:OrangeStar|OrangeStar]] ([[User talk:OrangeStar|talk]]) 15:06, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

You tried to deflect away from this (https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Two-factor_authentication&diff=333336&oldid=333335&diffmode=source), of course, which I wasn't about to let you do (https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Two-factor_authentication&diff=333359&oldid=333341&diffmode=source).

I have not said someone has no credentials without asking for any

Wow, what a VCP violation!

I haven't even covered half of the entire list of VCP violations.

And when are you going to release this damning evidence that is sure to get me insta-locked?

I'd advice against continuing the debate here - this is wholly unprofessional.

Never had access to those.

@Owen Don't worry, soon enough I will be gone.

Reception123 claimed this task.

Done. As a final word I feel compelled to express my surprise at the fact that one negative interaction with a user would cause someone to lose their temper and resign from the SRE team as if that interaction was in any way connected to the team or the Miraheze community as a whole. Either way, I am sorry that the MediaWiki team wasn't for you.

As Owen mentions above, please don't keep using this task to debate the issue.
