Requested access: MediaWiki Engineer

Rationale for access: With Naleksuh gone, I don't mind returning here, even if it's just to watch it all end. I believe all questions about my technical competence are more than answered at this point, so please spare me the questions. NDA situation is already taken care of.

I previously resigned from SRE following an intense confrontation with Naleksuh, a likely VCP violation. If that's a deal-breaker for you, say so.

I also can't bring myself to care about the T&S drama, so that's not a deal-breaker for me. Either Owen is right and something serious happened, or I don't even know what could have happened. If it's the latter, I guess I'll know soon enough.

As a MWE, I'll do one of these two things:

  1. Regular MWE stuff, if there's at least someone else remaining here that is not completely demoralized and still wants to push forward. If we decide to continue, I do have some suggestions, such as reforming our triaging system at Phab, to deal with current circumstances.
  2. Watch as everything ends, if that's the route SRE decides to take. By that I mean, give file backups to those that want to move away, and things like that.

And I guess I can't end this without talking a bit more at length about my previous resignation:

The confrontation was over the status of TOTP as a "something you have" authentication factor. I wrote some rather harsh words to Naleksuh, and didn't help at all with de-escalating the situation. At worst, I was actively fanning the flames. Void offered me an easy way out: just retract my rude statements, which of course I was too prideful at the time to do.

All I can say is that I see what I did wrong, and I promise try my best to avoid this behavior. If you have additional questions, ask in this task's comments.

Event Timeline

I am no longer EM but I would just add that I think past (very recent) behavior and conduct violations can't simply be ignored and dismissed "out of pride" and comments such as the ones made in T10931#220642 indicate a continued inflammatory rhetoric which is not necessarily something to be desired.

Naleksuh was a generally globally disruptive user (particularly on Meta Wiki and Phabricator), who Stewards should've globally locked as such prior to the events getting out of hand, so I can appreciate they have a tendency to ruffle peoples' feathers and cause them to act with some degree of irrationality. As such, I can partially forgive Orange Star for that irrationality, but at the same time and given the recency of the events, we're handing a lot of significant technical access with the MWE role, it does give me pause as to consider the likelihood for similar actions, either community or technical. So, while I would not necessarily oppose this request, perhaps only weakly, at the same time, I cannot support it, either

I would highly recommend placing a pause on both this and @AmandaCath's request for MWE until the new organizational structure has been determined for Miraheze. Adding new SRE members in the midst of...all this is certainly not ideal, given the nature of the role, and especially pending mass changes to our SRE structure. Once the new structure is decided on, I am confident this would be approved. Obviously it's not for me to decide, instead up to the 3 remaining SRE team members, but I would add that as a note just because of all the current turmoil.

OrangeStar changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Jun 18 2023, 10:02

This is going to take a while. At the very least, this is pending on there being someone with both the power and the will to process these requests. So this will probably not happen until Labster and the others deal with the org problems.

Public key set, it's the same one I used before resigning.

Even though I don't currently have any roles and am not sure if I will in the future I think the concerns raised by myself and Dmehus should be addressed and not ignored.
Conduct and behavior has been raised as one of the main issue in SRE and the source of people leaving so it really isn't something that can be "swept under the rug" and ignored.

I'm withdrawing this request.
