Install skins Timeless and Foreground on corydoctorow.miraheze.org
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi. I would very much appreciate it if you would install the Foreground and Timeless skins, so I can try them both and see which one works best for reading long texts (I was not able to find good example wikis with these skins and long articles)

Thank you very much! Truly appreciated!

Event Timeline

Forteller renamed this task from Istalll skins Timeless and Foreground on corydoctorow.miraheze.org to Install skins Timeless and Foreground on corydoctorow.miraheze.org.May 1 2017, 20:16

The Foreground Skin has been requested and should be enabled soon. The Timeless skin needs a security review per T1702 and therefore cannot be enabled at this time.

Foreground is now enabled. Timeless has passed security review but is still pending installation

Thank you very much! Any ETA on installing Timeless? :)

Timeless has already been installed. I have now enabled it on your wiki.

Thank you!

Unfortunately something went wrong. When I selected Timeless in the settings and clicked Save I got this error message, which now is everything I get on all of corydoctorow.miraheze.org :(

MediaWiki internal error.

Exception caught inside exception handler.

Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information

I have opened an upstream task: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T165225 and disabled the skin on your wiki for now.

I'm continually amazed by the speedy replies and help I get here. Thank you so much!

@Forteller While that may be the case, please note that "Upstream" (Wikimedia) responses are very slow, and the error might not get fixed for a while.

Any ETA on testing the new, allegedly fixed, version? Thanks! :)

@Forteller As soon as the updated code is available on GitHub I will update the skin. I will ask about how long it takes

Seems like it was already there. I've updated the extension, please test it out and tell me if it works.

Thank you! But something crazy is going on now. The wiki seems to work fine until I log in, then it stops working. In Firefox the page is just blank (white) and in Chromium I get a message about the page not working and the HTTP error message 500. Just logging in does this, I can't get to the settings to try to change the theme at all.

This still happens, so I can't do anything on my wiki. I hope you'll get around to have a look at this soon! Thank you!

@Forteller Could be an error with the skin itself, if you want please tell me and I will disable it. We're currently dealing with this 503 and upload issue, but I'll get to it after that

But is there a different theme when I log in than when I'm not logged in? I haven't changed the theme again after I changed to Timeless, this error happened and Timeless got disabled. But perhaps it was enabled again automatically when it was turned on again, but just for my user account?

Please. I would very much like to be able to work on my wiki again now. Thanks!

@Forteller Sorry for the delay. What would you like me to do?

From the look of things, either the upstream fix did not work, or there's something else going on. Anyway, @Forteller you should be able to use this link (while logged in) to change your skin to something other than timeless for the time being.

Thank you very much, @Void! I just got confused since I didn't think I had different themes when logged in and logged out.

I'd appreciate it a lot if you would keep working on fixing the bug. :)

Are you still working on this? No hurry, just would appreciate if you do! :)

@Forteller There's nothing we can do, as it is up to the extension authors/maintainers to fix the bugs. We will soon be upgrading to 1.29 so hopefully the bug is fixed then.

Ok, thank you! I'm sure I'll get a notification when the upgrade happens. I'll try to switch the theme for my account again after that and let you know if it still doesn't work :)

Forteller claimed this task.

Upgrading to Wikimedia 1.29 solved this. Thanks again everyone!
