Investigate why Lua virtual size is 8 MB or more for a simple module call
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Pages on Miraheze wikis with Scribunto modules are displaying Lua virtual size as being 8 MB out of 50 MB available after calling any module with any code in it, no matter how simple or not it is. This is probably quite a performance issue, but I can’t know it for sure, just bringing this up for you.

The problem is not present in Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects, so it is Miraheze-specific. You can see Lua virtual size by looking into HTML source or opening any page with a module and pressing "Page preview".

If this is not a problem, sorry for bothering.

We use binary Lua which is less "nice" than php Lua which is what Wikimedia use. There's a task for changing over which I'll probably get to shortly but right now its "normal" and "fine" (well not fine but you know, ish).

John triaged this task as Normal priority.Apr 16 2020, 20:48
