Mass move of pages on nonciclopedia.org
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We need to completely redo the internal structure of our wiki and that needs a lot of pages to be moved to different namespaces (including talk pages, of course) without leaving redirects. Here's how.

The pages starting with the prefixes NonLibri:, NonFiabe: or NonPoesie: need to lose the prefix and be moved to the namespace Nonsource. For example, "NonFiabe:Gli gnomi" would turn into "Nonsource:Gli gnomi".

The ones starting with NonRicette: or Manuali: must lose the prefix and be moved to Nonbooks. For example, "Manuali:Assecondare un anziano" becomes "Nonbooks:Assecondare un anziano".

Pages starting with the prefix NonCitazioni: need to lose the prefix and be moved to the namespace Nonquote. For example, "NonCitazioni:Aristotele" would turn into "Nonquote:Aristotele".

Pages starting with the prefix Test: need to lose the prefix and be moved to the namespace Noniversità. For example, "Test:Sei religioso?" becomes "Nonviersità:Sei religioso?".

Pages in the namespaces Nonciclopedia, MediaWiki, Template, Aiuto or Giochi must be moved to the namespace Cimitero while keeping their old namespaces as prefixes. For example, "MediaWiki:Common.css" becomes "Cimitero:MediaWiki:Common.css".

I said "without leaving redirects" because I'd rather rename the links with mass edit, which I can't do right now because of an error, see T3753,

Event Timeline

I'd like an update on this.
In the meanwhile there's an issue with namespaces that could be probably fixed easily. We used to have a namespace named "NonNotizie" and we asked for a new namespace named almost the same, "Nonnotizie", except for the third "n", which is not capitalized; now, the pages starting with "NonNotizie" exist in the main ns but clicking on a link opens the wrong page, the one with the same title but starting with "Nonnotizie", which of course doesn't exist.
There is probably some conflict with namespaces. Would you please move such pages in the correct ns before doing the other things I asked? It's the only pages I can't move myself because of that inconsistency.

Status update: I've completed most of this task. Which also led us to find a namespace error which we fixed!

Also led us to other problems (side tracking).

Thanks! Please wait a little before moving Test to Nonversità, we're probably about to change its name.

Oh, I did that before you said that sorry :)

Well, luckily enough it's just a bunch of pages, I can move them manually.

Ok, so we decided to change the ns "Nonversità" into "Noniversità". I've updated the task accordingly.

Then there's an issue with namespaces that stayed the same but with an uppercase becoming a lowercase (NonDizionario and NonNotizie): the pages are still in the old namespaces and are impossible to move because if, for example, you click NonNotizie:"Bidone d'oro" 2009; trionfa Felipe Melo, sul podio Quaresma e Tiago (notice the capital N in the namespace) you're actually sent to Nonnotizie:"Bidone d'oro" 2009; trionfa Felipe Melo, sul podio Quaresma e Tiago (notice the lowercase n), which is empty. The same happens with NonDizionario/Nondizionario.

Thanks. What about this:

So this should mostly be resolved now!

Not yet. Articles in ns "Nonnotizie", "Discussioni nonnotizie", and "Discussioni nondizionario" are still out or reach.

@Wedhro so you want NonDizionario to become Nondizionario and NonNotizie to Nonnotizie?

Yes. The problem here is that pages were imported with the old namespaces but we can't reach them because Mediawiki points to the new ones, where the pages don't exist yet. As in the example above, try clicking on NonNotizie:"Bidone d'oro" 2009; trionfa Felipe Melo, sul podio Quaresma e Tiago: you'll end in "Nonnotizie:"Bidone d'oro" 2009; trionfa Felipe Melo, sul podio Quaresma e Tiago", which doesn't exist yet.

PS: the problem is only related to the ns "Nonnotizie", "Discussioni nonnotizie", and "Discussioni nondizionario".
"Nondizionario" is ok.

PPS: apparently the articles starting with "NonNotizie" are in the main namespace (check it) and for some reason are redirected to the "Nonnotizie" namespace, which is empty.

@Wedhro "Nonnotizie" should be fixed (articles are now showing up in that namespace)

Can confirm. Yay! Now only "Discussioni nonnotizie" and "Discussioni nondizionario" are missing.

@Wedhro "Discussioni nonnotizie" and "Discussioni nondizionario" are both fixed now!

Thanks again. There's a few more things to do. I found a lot of talk pages that ended up in the main namespace: pages starting with Discussioni manuali should be moved to "Discussioni nonbooks" and lose the prefix; the ones starting with Discussioni test should be moved to "Discussioni noniversità" and lose the prefix too.

Great! I'll fix the rest, it's just a few pages. Thanks a lot, this task can be closed now; if more inconsistencies show up I'll open a new task.

Your welcome :)
