Event Timeline

It appears that you have not registered your custom domain yet. Please register your domain and then follow the instructions at https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Custom_domains

Looking into it right now, might need to adjust something when I get the chance. I'll post an update soon.

Somebody else from the wiki registered a domain, seem to have the same idea lol. They currently have it pointing directly at the wiki URL (https://ripto.miraheze.org/) but from the instructions, I'm guessing that's not the correct set up for Miraheze.

Looking into getting it configured so it points to mw-lb.miraheze.org. Updated the task with the new domain but I'll let you know once it's setup.

Just got word that the ripto.gq custom domain is now pointed to mw-lb.miraheze.org. Let me know if that works or not.

Unfortunately, it still is not pointing to us (the A record is for "Open LTD"). If it works for you, maybe try pointing your nameservers instead (see the guide on Meta). Or if not, maybe you could upload a screenshot here of your configuration so we can see where the issue is.

Yeah, the domain record is most likely set to A instead of CNAME. I talked with the one who's managing the Freenom domain (also set up a test domain myself to see how the dashboard works), for some reason they can't access the domain records in the dashboard but they can set the nameservers. Not sure how they managed to set the domain destination before, could be the dashboard or their browser acting up but I'm getting a little impatient.

Went ahead and had them set the nameservers to "ns1.miraheze.org" and "ns2.miraheze.org". Had them send me a screenshot to verify it's actually set.

Checked myself, the dashboard automatically capitalizes nameservers on its own so hopefully that isn't an issue.
I'm confident this should do the trick but feel free to double-check. To be fair, we're a little new to setting up a domain but we're starting to figure it out. Sorry for the trouble.

The capitalization is not a problem, your domain should be pointed correctly now. Thank you!

Looks like the SSL is working so it all checks out.

However, just found out that the domain had URL forwarding set up and for some reason, once it's set, it will not let you unset it (Thanks for that, Freenom :/ ). After trying a few things for the URL forward, we eventually gave up as it'll either time out or go to this page:

The Let's Encrypt SSL certificate is definitely working, the URL just isn't redirecting to the wiki itself. Does it usually take a while to update the nameservers or would URL forwarding being set (which refuses to be unset) be the issue? Checked the URL about 12 hours after you posted and it was landing on that 404 page on Miraheze.

Got ahold of the person who manages the domain and had them screen share so I could help them directly. Turns out having a custom nameserver, even if it's blank, prevents them from setting a CNAME record. Basically, it's one way or the other for Freenom.
We decided to ditch the nameserver approach and set up a CNAME record pointed at "mw-lb.miraheze.org" instead to see if we have better luck with that.

So long story short, let's try using this CNAME subdomain "wiki.ripto.gq". You can remove the other one "ripto.gq" if you want. I updated the task with the new custom domain.
Really sorry about giving you the runaround Reception123, it's driving us crazy too. Hopefully, this will finally work correctly.

Sorry for all the issues with your custom domain, it should work now.

Verified it is 100% working now. Thank you so much for the help, sorry for the shenanigans but looks like everything is sorted out now.
Think this task is considered done now.
