Odd behaviour of "Mass delete" aka Special:Nuke on scruffywiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

On scruffywiki I'd like to mass delete all files prefaced by "Cgs". There are hundreds there. In Special:Nuke I choose options namespace: File and Max number 500. It only displays about 31 files and after deleting the selected files click Delete more pages, repeat the above and it lists the same file names again.

@Rob_Kam Are these files with the import script? How many files have you uploaded to the wiki?

Uploaded with msupload in October 2018. Maybe around 1500.

It's just deleting the same 31 files each time, even though they're already deleted.

Re-deleting previously deleted files is a known bug of Nuke - it doesn't matter if they were bulk uploaded or not. Once files have been deleted once, they continue to show up in Special:Nuke if you enter the username of the original uploader or leave that field blank... but it doesn't actually delete them again because it can't (it just says it did).

The one thing I can think of is that Nuke only deletes recently created pages, so it is possible that if the rest of the files were older than the ones that were already deleted, Nuke may not be able to retrieve them.

If you say it's an extension bug, is there a task upstream for it that you've found that can be linked?

@Reception123 not off the top of my head, but I haven't looked that closely either. As indicated by my status here and the note on the Meta userpage, I've been unexpectedly busy these last few weeks. I just know that it's an issue I've experienced myself on numerous occasions where I've mass deleted vandal files and then I go to do a separate unrelated mass delete several days later and the Nuke still attempts to re-delete the already deleted files. I probably emailed upstream about it at some point, and I do recall it being one of those things that everyone is aware of but nobody wants to work on.

I don't know, I've not tried to mass delete anything since the above.

Okay, in that case I will close as resolved since there is no current issue. Please reopen this task if you still experience this problem when you perform your next deletion
