are analytics possible?
Open, NormalPublic

Description

While recently looking at the distribution map tweet on the 503 page (yet again),

https://twitter.com/miraheze/status/1138628172709281794

I got to thinking that it would be cool to have something similar for my wiki...

I'd like to see

  • who (besides me) is using the site
  • & when, how long, what pages, and where they're from
  • and ideally be able to differentiate between other users in my office

I figure dropping Google Analytics in with

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:HeadScript
or https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Google_Analytics_Integration

might not be advisable (or possible?), but I don't think a solution like Wikipedia's would give me enough info:

https://stats.wikimedia.org/v2/#/all-projects

Is analytics possible for miraheze-hosted wikis?

Is Special:Analytics on your wiki helpful?

Google Analytics is blocked by Extension-Review on Security grounds so is a no.

And regarding the 503s, I'd like to apologise for them but I can confirm that @Paladox got in touch with one of our providers (RamNode) who adjusted some settings to reduce some of them although issues around bandwidth might be around for a bit due to our limited budget (although these normally only slow us down and our new DB should help with the storage once Operations migrate everything.

Thanks RhinosF1!

I hadn't noticed that page. I'm getting more visitors than I thought I was... though it would also be nice to know which pages are being hit.

Are all outside analytics providers being blocked or is it just Google? I don't have experience with any, and therefore no preference. Do you know of a good one to add?

I'll see what matomo gives us

I think we only allow matomo
