I would like to enable edit rights for all visitors to this Wiki, so login is optional. Can this be done?

Many thanks

Didn't you remove all permissions from * group?

If i did it was by accident! Not an experienced wiki person i'm afraid... Could you reinstate permission to edit to * group please?

RhinosF1 added a subscriber: RhinosF1.

You can do that by selecting the ‘*’ group in Special:ManageWiki/extensions and adding ‘edit’ from the ‘unassigned permissions’ list.

mmm, well thats the problem - the '*' group already seems to have edit assigned to it - but if visiting site and not logged in, you can't edit... Screen shot attached shows current assigned permission

What would the problem likely be?

@Intdevalliance Hey, where are the rest of permissions you have removed from * group?

I haven't removed any permissions as far as i'm aware, i'm trying to ensure the * group has permissions to edit pages. Not sure what your question means. Apologies!

You have removed the bunch of permissions from * group, and this log proves this:

Every time you make a change to the wiki, MediaWiki logs ALL of them to either the history of corresponding page or the log. There is a definite evidence for your action, and you cannot pretend as you didn't do it.

@PlavorSeol: I’m sure it was accidental and they don’t realise rather than are pretending. Please assume good faith and follow the Code Of Conduct while using Phabricator.

@Intdevalliance: Would you like use to reset it to the defaults?

Do you think I will be threatened with such threatening?
@Intdevalliance THERE IS A SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE THAT YOU HAVE REMOVED SUCH PERMISSION. DON'T LIE WHEN YOU ARE ASKING FOR HELP.

Configuration mistake - should be handled locally

As mentioned, if i did that, which i must have done as you rightly say, it was by accident. I created this Wiki, and i just want to allow people to edit without logging in, i'm not trying to mislead anyone, i promise.

@RhinosF1 , yes, if we could reset it to defaults so that '*' group can edit, that would be great.

I am very unsure how to use this software, that is why i opened this thread to ask for help.

Many thanks

So yeah, you assume good faith of them, but not me, right?
I won't tolerate threatening and any trial to force me anymore, for whatever reasons in any circumstances, no.

You also have threatened, complained, and tried to force, censor and/or oppress when the saying doesn't "fit" for you, even to some other users.
I have seen such situation for several times, even their saying (clearly) has no problems, so that the user must feel bittered and argument to such your judgement.
We are not here to adulate you, please you nor say only in the way you "fit".
I decided not to tolerate your such judgement anymore, never, in whatever circumstances. Trying to force me will result in the completely opposite situation.
I also remember you have tried to censor the freedom of speech for certain religion in a wiki request. I take freedom of speech very seriously and always say "NO" to censorship, in any circumstances. No exceptions.

Hey, sorry, i really didn't want to start an argument, i just need help to make sure '*' group can edit without logging in, that's all. Any changes i have previously made, were an attempt to allow this group to do this, not the other way around. No bad intention. So the changes you noticed were definitely an accident.

I created this wiki, and i really just want users to be able to get involved in an easy a way as possible, so giving editing rights without logging in seems the best way to do this, if i can find a way to assign this permission.

Many thanks

That is the default settings of Miraheze wikis, as well as MediaWiki itself. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Phabricator is not for stuffs that can be handled locally. So do it yourself.
Go here and re-check ALL the permission you have removed. I'm sure you can do this as long as you can understand English. I'm copy-pasting the log again for what you have removed:

We can reset it to the defaults. Would you like that?

I apologise if @PlavorSeol caused an issue. We have disabled their phabricator account.

I apologise if @PlavorSeol caused an issue. We have disabled their phabricator account.

As a sysadmin, I would like to also apologize for @PlavorSeol 's behavior, which is unacceptable. Please note that they do not represent us in any way, and were a volunteer. Due to their behavior, they have been blocked on Phabricator.

Hi again,

No problem, i apologise if gave wrong impression too!

Yes, that would be great to do that (reset to defaults) for me, if you think can help ensure non-logged in users (user group '*') edit content without logging in... I don't know what unintended implications would be by resetting default - for example, I assume resetting default is just about permissions not about skins or other settings... Again sorry for my lack of tech knowledge on all this - i am very new to the world of Wikis! :)

Many thanks

You did not at all.

Yes, it affects only permissions. I’ll ask someome to do this now.

Many thanks

Can you try now?

Hello,

This was caused by EditSubpages, (i've disabled to test if that was the cause and it was).

See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EditSubpages "The EditSubpages extension restricts anonymous users from editing most pages. Sysops (or whatever group has the 'editinterface' permission) can add pages to "MediaWiki:Unlockedpages" to allow anonymous editing."

Hm, kinda ironic that you linked a Wikipedia “policy/essay” to the discussion, yet you didn’t assume good faith.

Please don't carry a discussion on that ended over a year ago. It's not productive.
