Discuss a plan for a (semi) official bot hosting platform
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

APROVED

Currently, A number of bots that provide varying level of functionality to Miraheze Users (maybe we could review whether any could be merged etc and how best to do this but not 100% yet) are hosted on Wikimedia Toolforge.

This is not ideal and technically a ToS breach and as we continue to grow and more actively develop, not ideal for us.

We should bring these under our control on a off-production server providing semi-official hosting of some bots.

We also have things like void-bot that are maintained and dependant on a single user.

We have managed to get a FOSSHOST server from @Paladox which is ready to be commissioned.

This task is to create a plan for the service and discuss possible ways in which it could operate and link with Miraheze.

Event Timeline

RhinosF1 renamed this task from Launch a (semi) official bot hosting platform to Discuss a plan for a (semi) official bot hosting platform.Jun 12 2020, 21:25
RhinosF1 added a parent task: T4967: Xtools for Miraheze.

Added T4967 as it's not within the initial scope but might pave a path for it in the long term future.

We could certainly do something like xtools with this server.

Paladox lowered the priority of this task from High to Low.Jun 12 2020, 21:53

Thanks @Paladox, forgot the form does that
