Mass deletion of pages with the "Thread:" prefix on Real Life Villains Wiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System administrators, Mirahezian Andrewbdfe has requested a mass deletion of the pages with the "Thread:" prefix. Upon my quick glance, they ''appear'' to all be in '''Main:''' namespace, but am awaiting confirmation of this. I am also awaiting confirmation that ''all'' such pages are to be deleted with the deletion maintenance script. Upon my quick glance of those in '''Main:''' namespace that I checked, there appears to be at least ~500 pages per page in Special:AllPages and at least, or close to, 10 pages (at ~500 pages per page) that need deleting.

Could you monitor that page on Stewards' noticeboard and enact the deletion when the clarifications are provided?

Thanks.

Dmehus created this task.

The user followed up by saying they modified, or created, a namespace, and thinks they've deleted the pages. However, I don't think that's what happened. You can see their modification here, but there's no record in the deletion or move logs of those pages having been either (a) deleted or (b) moved. While the pages no longer show up in Special:AllPages, if you try visiting one of the thread pages (not the corresponding talk page for the thread page), you get a bad title error (likely owing to the conflict with the newly-created namespace). As is somewhat expected, the user didn't read, completely, everything I wrote, and rushed into trying to create or modify a new namespace.

Further problematic, too, and possibly related, when searching through Special:Log/delete or Special:Log/move, you can no longer browse through more than the first page (as is normal). So there appears to be a broken configuration.

Feel free to split this request into two tickets, as and if needed.

Can a system administrator follow up with Andrew, revert out the ManageWiki change(s) made, and delete the pages properly? (sigh)

If they want it deleting, then just get them to give the go ahead and we'll take it from there. Don't worry, there's a script to fix this kind of thing when creating namespaces.

@RhinosF1 My concern is that the user doesn't realize he's made a mess of things, and may need a system administrator to just intervene. He originally requested deletion of the pages, and with him having done the mass conversion, albeit malformed one, of the extension's namespace, that should be confirmation enough for you to revert his ManageWiki settings change, I think, and delete the pages properly. I'm just concerned because of all the configuration problems on that wiki. Can you either (a) follow up with him and get explicit confirmation to revert his ManageWiki settings change and mass delete the pages prefixed by Thread or (b) revert his ManageWiki settings change and mass delete the pages prefixed by Thread, taking his ManageWiki settings change as an implicit confirmation? Given the configuration problem with Special:Log, this needs rectification, and shouldn't be left even if the user thinks everything is A-OK.

He can revert his own change, we can fix it without touching ManageWiki.

@Andrewbdfe seems to have reverted his namespace change, per the log entries from the **ManageWiki log** on his wiki:

Subsequent to that and through Phabricator ticket #5987, as well as through discussions on Stewards' noticeboard and my user talk page on Meta, @Andrewbdfe has requested that all pages prefixed by @comment: be deleted from his wiki, which seems to have been completed, or is in the process of being completed.

The only question remaining is what happened to all the pages in Main namespace on @Andrewbdfe's wiki that were prefixed by "Thread:". Before the first namespace configuration change (at 12:15, 29 July 2020), there were some 10-20 pages of pages in Main namespace with that prefix. They're not there now, so where did they go, or were they included in the 5987 script run? @Reception123?

The script run in T5987 only included @comment pages as requested. I did nothing to any Thread: prefixed pages.

I can't see any Thread: prefixed pages so likely already resolved
