Requesting EmbedVideo
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Hi, I'd like to install EmbedVideo on our wiki as it seems to be a much better option for us than Extension:Video as far as replacing our existing Widgets.

On second thought, since Widgets was completely removed, this should be more thoroughly considered. I will talk with @Southparkfan and see if we should consider this extension.

Unfortunately, for now I am going to stick with this original decline, however that does not mean this extension will not be considered. It just means that it is, for at least this very instant, it is declined. This will require a far more extensive review because of its functionality and what it does. I am personally very uncomfortable with approving this extension right now, however I will still ask @Southparkfan to look at this and he can re-open this task if he feels it can be considered/approved.

@Universal_Omega I personally think we should consider this extension either in addition to the Video extension, or instead of. I would just note that Video is a beta extension; this is a stable extension, according to MediaWiki.org. As well, the way this extension is developed is simpler from the perspective to potentially adding additional video or other audio sources upstream in the future, which is something we definitely need to do with no Widgets extension. So I think we should reopen this task, and perhaps just pause it as stalled for now?

just pause it as stalled for now?

What is the external factor here?

@John Not sure what you mean?

Stalled would be inappropiate here as we only stall tasks that are waiting on an external factor.

If it allows you to embed raw html, you can ask a million times but that would be a significant security risk and one that I'm not sure we'd be willing to accept. Universal Omega has said he'll speak to Southparkfan who can choose to review if he so wishes but until then it remains declined.

If this is waiting on Southparkfan to review, couldn't this task be reopened until he does so?

No, because I am declining the extension. I am going to still ask SPF if he wants to still look at this extension/consider it, but as of now, I am officially declining it, and it remains declined unless SPF reviews this and decides otherwise.
