Since my resignation from tech team, I was wondering if when the domains get close to expiration if someone would be willing to take them over from me, if not thats fine I can continue to provide them (to prevent domain hijacking/phishing) .
By best to suggestion is to change the account email to sre@ and then we can reset the password and switch to our details.
Um, no... this is my personal freenom account, that has other domains, and my personal info attached.
Yeah, I have thought about this and while initially I didn't see any issues with this, I have to agree with @Zppix here on not changing the user account to be associated to sre[at]miraheze[dot]org. I think there's really three options here, in order of my preference (from greatest to less preferred):
- Let the free Freenom domains lapse, hope no one else registers them once they're purged at the Freenom registry level, then reregister them under Miraheze SRE's account;
- Let Zppix continue to hold these free domains in his personal account; or,
- Have Miraheze Limited agree to pay for the cost to upgrade the free Freenom domains to paid domains, so they can be transferred to Miraheze SRE's account. Once transferred and before they are renewed next year, Miraheze SRE could downgrade them back to free domains, to cut expenses.
As the domains aren't in active use, there's no real requirement for us have control over them - therefore if Zppix is willing to keep renewing them, that is absolutely fine. If he isn't, and a transfer isn't possible, registration lapsing would be the only next steps.
Based on the previous comment which suggests he is happy to keep renewing, I'm going to close this. If that's not the case, please re-open and we'll discuss the practicalities of a lapse-re-register process.
