Merge horribletvshowepisodeswiki into terribletvshowswiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

As part of our rebrand, Horrible TV Show Episodes Wiki (horribletvshowepisodes.miraheze.org) will be merged into Terrible TV Shows Wiki (terribletvshows.miraheze.org). Progress:

Event Timeline

@MarioMario456 This is quite an involved task and would take quite some time. With regard to redirecting horribletvshowepisodes.miraheze.org, preferred practice is not to redirect Miraheze subdomains because it becomes challenging to remember which subdomains are redirected to another wiki. So would you be okay with not redirecting horribletvshowepisodes.miraheze.org and instead you could just keep horribletvshowtvshowepisodeswiki active as a read only wiki with a local sitenotice pointing users to terribletvshowswiki for, say, 2-3 months, then you could request the former wiki be deleted?

Okay, great. Thanks! Sounds good. Also the last point, "Fix TTVSW's Main Page to not mention HTVSEW," sounds like something you guys as local bureaucrats can take care of after everything else is done, right?

I have closed horribletvshowepisodeswiki.

EDIT: Wait, nevermind. This may interfere with the import, so temporarily re-opening.

It shouldn't interfere with the import, as the import script is just a system user, but yeah you can always close the wiki after the import is done.

@Reception123 horribletvshowepisodes has now been added to terribletvshowswiki's local interwiki table per this request, so you can uset --username-prefix="horribletvshowepisodes" for the import.

Just create the local accounts automatically for the merge. It works well, since both of the wikis are on Miraheze.

And plus, the interwiki will be useless and redundant as horribletvshowepisodeswiki will be closed and privated after the merge.

Would it really be an issue if we did the interwiki? After all, when you do imports manually interwiki is mandatory.

Okay. Make sure to use that parameter that removes the prefix if an account with the same name exists.

@MarioMario456 It does this automatically where the user account exists locally. Also, since it's a Miraheze wiki, they're all Miraheze accounts, so there shouldn't be any prefix> shown in the Special:Contributions pages (notwithstanding previously imported pages and templates from other wikis, of course)

Yeah, I think you're misunderstanding things a bit here. See @Reception123's reply here and my reply here, which reiterates what I discussed with you privately on Discord or IRC (can't remember which)

Yeah, and as I've said on Discord there is no "parameter that removes the prefix if an account with the same name exists.".

Reception123 claimed this task.

Should all be merged now.
