Please host my domain's DNS zone file at Miraheze

Description

Hi Doug

I have successfully registered the domain name wikimoma.art with the registry domaincheap.com, and would like it to point to moma.miraheze.org

Please can you help make this happen. I am not sure what other information you might need, I couldn't see anything obvious in the manage section at the registry.

Kind Regards

Rosie

Hi, not sure if you already have but please read https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Custom_domain, it gives two options: either 1) use a CNAME or 2) point your nameservers to Miraheze. You also need to indicate whether you would like Lets Encrypt which we configure for you or your own SSL.

Hi

Thanks for the advice and support.

No I did not read https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Custom_domain but have now.

I understand some of it. I would like Miraheze to create SSL certifficate using Let's Encrypt.

I am a bit confused about what to do with the CNAME data. I have found the CNAME fields at my registry (cheapname.com), but don't know what precisely to enter in the fields. I have taken a screen shot and hope you might be able to help me.

Regarding the CNAME, you will have to set the values like this:
Host: @
Value: mw-lb.miraheze.org

Thanks for that :-)

I have entered the data in the CNAME record for wikimoma.art to read :-
Host: @
Value: mw-lb.miraheze.org

(and saved them)

I have also succeeded in setting the name servers to "ns1.miraheze.org" and "ns2.miraheze.org"

The registry said "Please contact your hosting provider and ask them to register those nameservers so they will work properly"

Over to you Reception123 (or other wonderful Miraheze volunteers) :-)

Many thanks.

Tip: You actually just need to use one of the methods that has been provided for you - CNAME, or nameservers.
I did use only nameserver and has succeeded setting up my custom domain.
Any way, good luck ;)

So should I make the CNAME fields at the registry blank then? I don't want to do that until someone who is actioning the nameserver registrations actually tells me to do it.

So I will wait.

The registry informed me it could take up to 24 hrs for the changes to show up on the internet. So I am hoping someone at miraheze.org will implement the necessary changes on the server and let me know when it is done.... or if I am utterly confused let me know :-)

Welp, in some cases, CNAME/nameserver applying progess would be very fast, my case for example, only taking me few seconds.
In that time, I'm using Freenom's free domain. You just need to do one of the provided ways, but since you have done all of them, you don't need to do anything for now. ;)

Reception123 claimed this task.

Yeah, such changes can typically up to that long, but in most cases, the change usually happens quite quickly.

Fanstastic! Thanks for your help.

I notice now that wikimoma.art and https://wikimoma.art now go to URL: https://wikimoma.art/wiki/Welcome_to_MOMA and an active wiki is served (as before) - AWESOME !!!

but www.wikimoma.art gets "Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site. We can’t connect to the server at www.wikimoma.art..."

It would be good to have www.wikimoma.art work too, as some people will put "www." in front of "wikimoma.art" even if I just promote "wikimoma.art". Is this a matter remedied at our Miraheze server, or do I need to contact or do something at the domain name registry?

I asked at the registry, they said this: .

Per our check, the domain name is not pointed to the hosting, provided by Namecheap, it is pointed to some third-party Hosting provider, which is the company that provided you with these nameservers the domain name is pointed to: ns1.miraheze.org and ns2.miraheze.org.

In this case, please contact your Hosting provider (the company that provided you with these nameservers) in order to check the resolution of the www.wikimoma.art. They will be able to help you with your request.
