[spnatiwiki] Expat licensing
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Requesting https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/License%3AExpat to be available to license https://spnati.miraheze.org under. My understanding is that then the $1 and $2 in MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning and MediaWiki:Copyright will be pointable towards this license.

This would enable us to match the license of the game the wiki is about, https://gitgud.io/spnati/spnati/-/blob/master/LICENSE (it says 'MIT' which is synonymous; the exact wording matches the Expat instance of the license).

Hello, every current contributor of the wiki must publicly agree to have the license changed, or their edits removed. Thanks!

Got it. I see, because the copyleft/viral 'SA' clause of Fandom's [https://fandom.com/licensing default] CC-By-SA license is omitted in Expat, being what the FSF calls a 'lax' license.

I'll try contacting everyone I can, then the edits of anyone left over can be removed from the contents of the wiki (almost all pages will need to be reworked anyway). Is there an easy way to list contributors, or edits by contributor? https://spnati.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:ListUsers doesn't account for the imported edits it seems. (update: I'll just look through the histories one by one, there's not that many pages right now anyway)

<del>Also, is there a way I can restrict new edits until we have this straightened out?</del> Wait, then it wouldn't be possible to have the discussion publically, huh. OK, well I started a page at https://spnati.miraheze.org/wiki/wiki:license_migration, hopefully it attracts sufficient attention from those I invited; also, do you think the layout is acceptable?

Since there is only one user who has edits (H-Games~Documentation) and they have approved, this should be good to go.

A minor question however, @H-Games what icon should we use for this?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/category:MIT_license_icons exists, you could pick from there; haven't seen one for the Expat version specifically (nor does Expat, the XML parser library after which the license is named, seem to have a logo/icon itself).

@H-Games The new license should now be set. Please feel free to reopen this task if anything seems incorrect to you.
