[ACCESS REQUEST] Expanded access for mediawiki-{admins|roots}
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Shell name: mediawiki-admins / mediawiki-roots
Requested access: jobchron*

Rationale for access: This service is owned by the mediawiki team and we sometimes need to run puppet or analyse errors. During a few times where we've updated the puppet profiles, our normal SREs can't debug as easy and need assistance from ops to assist. Proposed by @Paladox at https://github.com/miraheze/puppet/pull/2433

Event Timeline

Is there still interest in this elevation request?

One question before proceeding forward: What would the use case be for mediawiki-admins (non mw-roots)?

So we can fix & debug our changes when we blow puppet up rather than wasting time of Infra people.

Are there any more specifics? I'm just not convinced whether mw-admins also need access in addition to mw-roots and how useful access would be (if it's not just a one off fix every few months).

The evidence is the fact that it was an mw-admin's work that caused what triggered this task.

After having considered the comments and request, I've decided that since jobchron is so closely related to MediaWiki it seems fair to allow access to mediawiki-admins (and root access to mediawiki-roots) in order to administer and manage the server, so this is approved.

Feel free to do a PR for access, otherwise I'll get to it.

One by Paladox is already open.

Thanks, merged.
