Can you please confirm that you want to revoke the "read" right from the "*" user group?

Revoking a right from a group is different than removing it, revoking means that anyone with that group cannot possess that right even if another group they're in gives it to them. Revoking read from user would disable read for absolutely everyone. This doesn't appear to be a request for that.

You can manage your wikis user group permissions right at the Special:ManageWiki/permissions then, choosing the user group you want to work on, moving further, there are several tabs there, the first one (Assigned Permissions) house the permissions the group currently have, that is where you can untick a particular right that you want to remove from the group, then save. The second tab (Unassigned Permissions) houses the rights the group currently doesn't have, here you can add a right that you want to the group to have that it currently doesnt.
