If this cannot be fixed soon enough, it would be helpful if wiki creations are disabled to prevent anyone from accidentally creating new wikis (@Jph2 and I have already stopped approving new requests but if someone returns after a break, they may be unaware of this issue).

The queue is visible here. We currently have a shortage of volunteers so it will be probably be a while till this gets done.
@Paladox mentioned on Discord that a WMF SRE has fixed the issue for now but is still investigating.

You can create a new group and give it the edit right. You should then remove the right from the * or user (I don't remember which one) group.
